There is a plethora of places to find authentic Vietnamese food in Melbourne. Duncan Lu shows Gary some of the best places at Springvale.
Start your day with a milky iced ca phe sua dah, or a warm ca phe nau before you sample the delights from the nearby pastry shops. If you want to go shopping for fresh food, you are spoiled for choice – beautiful bakeries, delis full of Vietnamese smallgoods, jam-packed supermarkets and some sensational fresh fruit and veg.
But if you just want to eat, don’t go past Mihn Duc for a Bahn Mi. They make all their pork hams in house, and their bahn mi combos will drive you wild.
Drop into Pho Hung and grab a steaming bowl of beef pho with all the trimmings – brisket, beef balls, the works. You can even order a bowl of spring onion and beef tallow to make that broth even richer. Or go to Bun Ngon, an ever-popular restaurant for some truly authentic regional dishes.
And for a sweet finish, visit Ben Thanh to sample traditional desserts made by Vietnamese producers across the city.
Take our word for it – after a progressive lunch in Springvale you won’t need to eat for a week.
