Werribee Zoo

An African safari takes months of planning, many hours of travel time and a whole lot of cash, right? Not if you just come to Werribee Open Range Zoo.

Werribee Zoo, which was first opened in 1983 as an overflow holding area for animals from Melbourne Zoo, has become the best place to see African animals roaming in the savannah.

Jump on a Safari Bus for a forty-minute round trip where you can see giraffes, rhinos, zebras and much more right up close. Or pay a little bit extra for a Deluxe Safari Adventure, where a smaller group can take the tour with the expert knowledge and personal touch of a zookeeper driver.

If that experience isn’t enough, there is also the African River trail, where you can see lions, wild dogs, gorillas and – most spectacularly – hippos bathing in the water and lolling on the land.

You can even stay overnight by booking a Slumber Safari.

So many animals, so much fun. You really do have to come to Werribee Open Range Zoo.
